Chemical Processing Filtration

Separation and filtration technologies are widely used in many different chemical industries, with each chemical manufacturing process operating differently in terms of size and nature. However, many chemical products are synthesized and categorized within two large groups. These large, broad groups are:

Petrochemicals and Bulk Chemicals - Chemicals that fall into this category are man-made fibers, bulk organic chemicals, and bulk inorganic chemicals (fertilizers, alkalis, acids, and gases).

Fine Chemicals - Chemicals that fall into this category are pharmaceutical ingredients, high purity chemicals, specialist chemicals, agro / agrichemicals, and chemicals/other products created by biopharmaceutical and biochemical means.

Hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, and sulfuric acid are some of the key inorganic acids. Other important acids are soda ash, caustic soda, chlorine, fertilizers, and phosphates. For petrochemicals, the intermediate materials used are aromatic, methanol, olefin compounds. Being produced in enormous quantities, bulk chemicals have standardized reactions.

About Fine Chemicals

Unlike bulk chemicals, fine chemicals are usually custom-produced in smaller numbers with highly specialized applications. More often than not, these applications are utilized with secrecy, associated confidentiality, and intellectual property. The production process is oftentimes patented and flexible, in which the processes are applied to a diversity of types in small numbers. Long story short, the exact definition of these chemicals is only expanding.

The Production of Fine Chemicals

The production process of fine chemicals can be more expensive in weight than it can be for bulk chemicals. The reason for this is due to the fact that fine chemicals require higher research investment and they can be difficult to treat. However, it should mentioned that fine chemicals are produced in industrial quantities, with batch production being common (unlike bulk chemicals). Fine chemicals are used for specific/specialized applications and can be defined as single, pure substances produced via chemical reaction. When fine chemicals are produced, they can be categorized into their intermediates and pharmaceutical ingredients.
