Filter bag housings are available in many different forms. Two of the most common types are single bag housings and multi-bag housings. Their names tell exactly what they are. Single bag housings are the more traditional, simple type of housing that hold one filter bag at a time. Multi-bag housings carry more than one bag at a time and are designed for more complex or demanding applications.
Housings are available in many different shapes, sizes, and materials. They can also have different end types depending on what you need. The size of the housing will determine the size of the filter bags they are compatible with. The most common of those sizes are 01 and 02, which are industry names for certain bag dimensions. We provide many high quality filter bag housings in the most common and uncommon sizes - ask us about any products you don't see online.

Liquid bag filter housings are pressurized vessels that hold one or more filter bags to remove particulate and contaminants from process liquids. Media enters the housing through the inlet, passes through the filter bag where particles are captured, and exits through the outlet to continue downstream. Bag filtration is one of the most common and versatile methods for industrial liquid filtration, capable of removing particles from visible solids all the way down to the sub-micron level. Commercial Filtration Supply carries a complete line of industrial bag filter housings from the leading brands in filtration.
Types of Bag Filter Housings
Single Bag Housings hold one filter bag at a time. They are the most economical option and are generally easy to install in any system. Single bag housings open at the top with a hinge or lever depending on the model, making bag changes straightforward. The tradeoff is that liquid flow must be stopped to replace the bag, so single bag housings are best suited for applications where brief maintenance shutdowns are acceptable. Most single bag housings accept either a size 01 or size 02 bag.
Multi-Bag Housings carry two or more bags at once and are designed for higher flow rates and more demanding applications. Some multi-bag housings hold over 50 bags, delivering significantly more flow capacity than a single bag unit. The key advantage is that individual bags can be replaced without stopping flow through the housing, allowing for continuous operation. Some configurations combine multiple single-bag chambers piped together with manual or automatic valve control to create a continuous-flow filtration system. Multi-bag housings cost more than single bag units, but they are the right choice when high flow and uninterrupted service are required.
How to Select the Right Bag Filter Housing
Selecting the correct industrial bag filter housing depends on your system requirements and process conditions. Use the table below to identify the key specifications you need before ordering.
Selection Factor
What to Consider
Flow rate
Higher flow requirements generally call for a multi-bag housing or a larger single bag unit
Bag size
The housing determines which bag size it accepts. The most common sizes are 01 and 02, which are industry-standard dimensions
Housing material
Available in 316L stainless steel, 304L stainless steel, and carbon steel. Material selection depends on chemical compatibility, temperature, and pressure requirements
Closure type
Options include hinged covers, swing bolt closures, V-band clamps, and lever-operated closures. Each offers a different balance of security and ease of access
Connection size and type
Housings are available with various inlet/outlet sizes and end types (flanged, threaded) to match your existing piping
Max pressure and temperature
Each housing model has a rated maximum operating pressure and temperature. Make sure the housing rating meets or exceeds your process conditions
Regulatory requirements
For food, beverage, and pharmaceutical applications, confirm that the housing and compatible bags are FDA approved
Maintenance and Performance
Bag filter housings are designed for easy, routine maintenance. When a filter bag reaches capacity, you simply open the housing closure, remove the spent bag, and install a replacement. Filter bags are disposable, sold in bulk quantities, and available in a wide range of micron ratings, materials, and sizes to match your application.
The frequency of bag changes depends on the type of media being filtered and the concentration of particulate in the process liquid. Monitoring the pressure differential across the housing is the most reliable indicator that a bag needs to be replaced. A rising pressure drop means the bag is loading up with captured material and flow is being restricted.
For housings that require replacement parts such as O-rings, gaskets, covers, or closure hardware, CFS stocks OEM components for all brands we carry.
